✨ About this walk

🌊 Route 17 is the Olle trail's arrival in Jeju City, and the one to walk on your last day: it ends ten minutes from Dongmun Market and the airport bus, and for its final hour you are walking the city's seafront with the planes coming in over your head. I like it for the contrast: a quiet river gorge in the morning, the beach at lunch, the lava rocks of Yongduam at sunset.

19 km from Gwangnyeong village down the Musucheon stream to the sea at Oedo Woldae, then east along the whole north coast. Six to seven hours with stops, almost all flat; the only climb is 65 m Dodu-bong, and that is the best viewpoint of the day.

🚶 The route

  1. Gwangnyeong Elementary: start stamp and information desk at the kids' book café opposite. Down into the Musucheon gorge and north along the stream path past Chang-o Bridge.
  2. Oedo Woldae, where the stream meets the sea under old pines: first toilets and first-aid kit, and the first bakery café. The coast path then runs through Hyeonsa Port to Iho Tewoo Beach and its horse-shaped lighthouses.
  3. Dodu: the painted Memory Lane, the harbour with its noodle houses and the big milk-tea café, then up Dodu-bong for Hallasan behind and the airport runway at your feet.
  4. The airport coast to Eoyeong Park, mid-route stamp, toilets and first-aid kit, then the Yongdam seafront: Leports Park, Sunset Hill and the long line of coast-road cafés.
  5. Yongduam, the Dragon Head Rock, and the Yongyeon Cloud Bridge over the gorge, then inland to Gwandeokjeong, Jeju's oldest building, and the restored Mokgwana.
  6. End stamp at the Kim Man-deok Memorial Hall; Dongmun Market, pork noodles and the airport bus are five minutes away. Toilets and first-aid kits are pinned in their own layer, stamps in theirs, food and cafés in pink.

💡 Good to know

  • 🚌 Getting there: bus from Jeju City to the Gwangnyeong 1-ri stop, about 30 minutes; the start is a short walk. The finish is in the old town with buses and taxis everywhere.
  • 🍜 The gorge section has nothing, so eat at the start or carry a snack. After Oedo there is food every few kilometres: noodles at Dodu, mackerel on the Yongdam coast, bracken hangover soup near Gwandeokjeong, pork noodles in Dongmun Market.
  • ⏰ Time Dodu-bong for mid-afternoon and Yongduam for sunset; the rocks and the cloud bridge are lit after dark.
  • ✂️ Shorter: start at Iho Tewoo Beach (bus from the city) and walk the 10 km coast to the finish, which keeps every viewpoint and all the cafés.
  • 🔗 Routes 5, 6 and 7 cover the south coast, and 18.1 is the ferry day out to Chuja Island.
